A pursuit of excellence, exacting requirements

To make the Complementary Geographical Denomination “Beaujolais Pierres Dorées” a true premium quality label

Commitments and specifications of Beaujolais Pierres Dorées

To obtain the Pierres Dorées designation within the Beaujolais AOP, the committed winemakers have established a set of specifications that is more demanding than the regional appellation (AOP). The aim is to highlight wines that meet high quality taste, environmental and social standards.

Hypothetical geographic area: 44 villages covered

The wines eligible for the DGC Pierres Dorées would need to be produced in 44 villages: Alix, Anse, L’Arbresle, Arnas, Bagnols, Belmont-d’Azergues, Bully, Chamelet, Charnay, Châtillon, Chazay-d’Azergues, Chessy-les-Mines, Cogny, Denicé, Frontenas, Gleizé, Lacenas, Lachassagne, Le Breuil, Légny, Létra, Limas, Lozanne, Lucenay, Marcy-sur-Anse, Montmelas-Saint-Sorlin, Morancé, Moiré, Pommiers, Porte des Pierres Dorées, Rivolet, Saint-Clément-sur-Valsonne, Saint-Germain-Nuelles, Saint-Julien, Saint-Jean-des-Vignes, Saint-Vérand, Sainte-Paule, Saint-Romain-de-Popey, Sarcey, Ternand, Theizé, Val d’Oingt, Ville-sur-Jarnioux et Vindry-sur-Turdine (excluding Pontcharra-sur-Turdine).

Production conditions: stricter criteria than the regional AOP

The Pierres Dorées designation project proposes production conditions that are more restrictive than those of the regional appellation:

  • The Pierres Dorées designation would be reserved for still red and white wines
  • Yields per hectare lower than those for Beaujolais wines without the designation
  • Aging at least until March 30th of the year following the harvest, with commercial release from June 1st of the following year.

Environmental commitments: a responsible viticulture

To address environmental challenges, the winemakers of the Pierres Dorées collective have incorporated specific measures into their specifications:

  • Mandatory environmental certification: Organic Agriculture (AB), High Environmental Value (HVE) at least level 2, Terra Vitis, or any other equivalent 2 HVE level certification
  • Controlled grass cover between vineyard rows
  • Limitation of non-organic inputs
